This teardrop freeform cabochon has been cut from material(South Africa) that has been gently heat treated to permanently change the color from golden yellow to red. A member of the quartz group, it is a classic example of pseudomorphous replacement by silica of fibrous crocidolite (blue asbestos). The fibrous structure of tiger eye creates chatoyance and also gives it a definite grain structure. All of our cabochons are cut with a rounded dome, polished flat back, and back cut to accommodate bezel settings. Colors may vary somewhat from what is pictured due to differences in computer monitors.
